Macbeth
Shakespeare
Shakespeare's Globe
Directed by Tim Carroll
We imagined that the painted architecture of the Globe as a dining hall in a grand aristocratic pile, and our Macbeth was performed in full evening dress using highly formalized, ritual expressions of violence.
A polished black floating slab dominated and animated the performance space. It became by turns threshold, table, shifting stage, hiding place and unstable height.
"Quite simply the best production of Macbeth I have ever seen. Why? Because it wasn't boring, it was fresh, it was new and it worked."
