INS Broadcasting Unit
ICA (2004)
Directed by Tom McCarthy
Lighting design by Jenny Kagan
The INS set up a broadcasting unit at the ICA from which more than forty agents generated "poem-codes" which were transmitted continuously for one week over FM radio in London and by internet to collaborating radio stations around the world.
The public were invited to tour the Transmission rooms where they could observe the agents receiving and transcribing incoming signals from widely various sources. The content was subjected to a number of metrical and technical procedures, transposed, permutated, looped, echoed, inverted, and finally re-assembled into scripts for broadcast.
"The INS is a group of rogue agents who have infiltrated the worlds of art, literary criticism and philosophy."
