Peep Show
Devised performance for dolls
Benchtours Theatre (1997)
Directed by Pete Brooks
Lighting design by Nigel Edwards
The audience enter an enclosed gauze box through a tunnel. All around them, and on two levels, “Mr” and “Mrs” act out bizarre situations in a post-war austerity environment of threadbare carpets, rabbit-mould jellies, leaky taps and dusty flying ducks. Janet and John meet David Lynch. Finally a huge child’s eye appears at a window, and we realize that we are in the centre of a dolls’ house, the entire narrative informed by a child’s logic.
“Peepshow is a theatrical Event . This is 1950s 'B' movie territory in full glowing technicolor […] technically imaginative, clever and slick.”
